Job Summary:

A Desktop Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of desktop technicians and ensuring efficient and effective support for computer systems, hardware, and software within an organization. They play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the desktop infrastructure to meet the needs of the employees and the organization as a whole.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead a team of desktop technicians, providing guidance, support, and mentoring to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize workload for the team, ensuring that all tasks and requests are handled in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and maintain the desktop infrastructure, including hardware, software, peripherals, and network connectivity, to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with other IT teams, such as network administrators and system administrators, to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to end-users, both remotely and in person, for hardware and software-related problems.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for desktop support activities, ensuring consistency and best practices across the team.
  • Evaluate and recommend desktop hardware and software solutions, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and security.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies related to desktop support and recommend improvements or enhancements to the existing infrastructure.
  • Track and maintain inventory of desktop equipment, software licenses, and other related assets.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, training sessions, and professional development activities for the desktop technician team.


Skills Requirements:

  • Proven experience in desktop support or a similar technical role, with at least 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
  • Strong technical knowledge of desktop operating systems (such as Windows, macOS, and Linux), hardware components, and standard software applications.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, connectivity, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), or similar qualifications are preferred but not mandatory.


Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)


Physical Requirements:

Occasionally exert up to 10 lbs. of force to push, pull, lift or otherwise move objects. Have visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data; and/or viewing a computer terminal. Type and/or sit for extended periods of time. Consistent attendance is an essential function of the job.
